The vehicle company was founded in December 1944. During those years, it was part of the "KIA Group". However, in 2003, it became independent. Initially, the company was known as "KyungSung Precision Industry" and it was not until 1951 that it was renamed "KIA Industries". The production of commercial and passenger vehicles was only expanded in the 1970s.

In 2009, a new facility was established in the USA (West Point, Georgia). "KIA" produced approximately 300,000 cars per year. The vehicles were distributed worldwide from 5,000 facilities. By 2013, there were two operational factories in China. The facilities produced nearly 130,000 units of power and almost 300,000 items per year.
Throughout the crisis in December 2014, a single plant in Russia had to stop its operations. Undoubtedly, this situation had negative consequences on the reputation of the company "KIA".
